On the web i see two different methods of putting trim around windows and doors on walls that have siding.

We used pressure treated 2 x 4 s for the trim around the windows and the doorway and then we had to create trim corners for both the inside and the outside corners like the ones in the picture above.
The main difference in the installation instructions from glancing through them both is that the hz10 product is permitted to have the trim installed over the siding while the hz5 product is not.

This meant our new windows would have trim that was much wider than our old windows making it necessary to cut away a bit of our siding to sit flush with the edge of that new trim.
Scrape the side of the window trim next to the siding and the immediate edge of the lap siding with a paint scraper.
In order to get the most accurate cut line we decided to place our new window in the opening to trace it.
If we installed the trim after the siding we would have had to caulk a ton to fill in for the different levels the layered siding creates.

The other method is to install trim that overlaps the face of siding so that when you look at the side of the trim there are gaps due to the bevels in the siding.
